Cookie Policy
Tarnished does not use cookies for its own features. Here is what it stores instead.
What Tarnished stores in your browser
Tarnished does not set cookies. It uses your browser’s local storage for these things only:
- Your sign-in session, so you stay signed in between visits. Signing out removes it.
- Your light or dark theme preference, and whether you folded the getting-started list on the Overview.
- A random identifier for this browser, sent only when you sign up, verify your email or continue with Google, so each person gets one free trial. It is not a fingerprint, is not used for tracking, and stays after signing out.
- Short waiting times after too many sign-in or code attempts, so reloading the page does not skip them.
While a guided tour is running
The step you are on is kept in this tab’s session storage, so reloading the page continues the tour where you were. It is cleared when the tour ends and when the tab is closed.
Notifications
The app registers a small service worker, a background script your browser keeps for this site, only so the rest timer can show notifications. It does not store or cache your data or pages.
No advertising or analytics trackers
Tarnished itself puts no advertising cookies, analytics trackers or third-party pixels in your browser. The records our server keeps about how your account uses the service are described in the Privacy Policy. Three third parties can store data on your device, and only where their feature is: Google’s sign-in button on the sign-in and sign-up pages, Razorpay’s checkout when you pay for a plan, and YouTube’s video player when you open an exercise tutorial (see below). Cloudflare, which protects the website, sets one security cookie when you pass its human check (see below).
Third parties
- When you pass Cloudflare’s “Verify you are human” check on this website, Cloudflare sets a cookie (cf_clearance) that remembers it for 16 hours, so you are not asked on every visit. It is needed for security and is not used for advertising or analytics.
- The sign-in and sign-up pages load Google’s sign-in button from Google. Google may read and set its own cookies there, such as the ones that keep you signed in to your Google account, to show the button and let you choose an account. Their use is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
- When you open Razorpay’s checkout to pay for a plan, Razorpay may set cookies needed to process and secure the payment. Their use is covered by Razorpay’s own policies.
- This website connects to Google Fonts when it loads, and its public pages, such as the home and legal pages, load typefaces from it. Google receives your IP address to deliver them.
- Exercise tutorials use YouTube’s embedded player in privacy-enhanced mode, loaded only when you open a tutorial. Once it loads, before you press play, YouTube receives your IP address and browser details and may store or read cookies or similar data, such as local storage, on your device; more may be stored when you play the video. Their use is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
Clearing storage
You can clear this site’s data in your browser settings at any time. Doing so signs you out, resets your theme and display preferences and replaces the browser identifier; your training data is stored with your account and is not affected.
